NDZ Live 007: Conor Caloia Puts Up With Our Nonsense

FMFC owner and COO Conor Caloia joins us for a spirited chat about all things 2023. We discuss FMFC’s offseason dealings, new USL1 clubs, and wealthy owners’ use of public money to fund stadiums. Also: Conor and Vern join the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics, the rumored ESPN+ deal, and 2023 stadium improvements.

In other club news, the 2nd round draw of the US Open Cup happened on Thursday, with Madison hosting the winner of Chicago House vs Bavarian United midweek the first week of April. Last year the Flamingos hosted Cleveland SC in the 2nd round and saw off the visitors with a 3-0 win, on a cold and blustery night on the isthmus. Full results of the draw can be found here, including other USL1 clubs’ matchups. The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is the oldest ongoing association football competition in the United States, involving clubs from the amateur level all the way up through the first division.

Finally, the Polar Plunge is this weekend, Mitch, Grant, and I (Andrew) will be participating alongside numerous FMFC front office, technical staff, and potentially even some players. The Plunge benefits Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI), who provides year-round sports opportunities to more than 10000 athletes, of any age and skill level, across the state. This is a special cause to me because it was special to my dad, and if you’d like to donate to the FMFC Polar Plunge team, you can do so here.

Right! I’m off to work then, enjoy your weekend, hope it’s a great one.
